It is a medical specialty society representing more than 33,000 psychiatric physicians from the United States and around the world. Its member physicians work together to ensure humane care and effective treatment for all persons with mental disorders, including intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. APA is the voice and conscience of modern psychiatry.

American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry – www.aacap.org

The AACAP, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established in 1953. It is a membership based organization, composed of over 8,000 child and adolescent psychiatrists and other interested physicians. Its members actively research, evaluate, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders and pride themselves on giving direction to and responding quickly to new developments in addressing the health care needs of children and their families.

Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder – www.CHADD.org

Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), is a national non-profit, tax-exempt (Section 501(c)(3)) organization providing education, advocacy and support for individuals with ADHD. In addition to our informative website, CHADD also publishes a variety of printed materials to keep members and professionals current on research advances, medications, and treatments affecting individuals with ADHD. These materials include Attention magazine and a free electronically mailed informational newsletter, as well as other publications of specific interest to educators, professionals, adults with ADHD, and parents.

ParentsMedGuide – www.parentsmedguide.org

The American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry have developed two medication guides, ADHD Parents Medication Guide, and The Use of Medication in Treating Childhood and Adolescent Depression: Information for Patients and Families. These guides are designed to help patients, families, and physicians make informed decisions about obtaining and administering the most appropriate care for a child with ADHD or depression. The guides have been endorsed by many national medical, family and patient advocacy organizations, listed below. In addition, AACAP has developed the Medication Guide for Treating Bipolar Disorder in Children and Adolescents, which has been approved by the APA.
